By the end of summer, it’s very hard to find a perfect leaf in the forest. They’ve been chewed by insects, attacked by fungi and bacteria, and may be deficient in nutrients. But even these imperfect leaves can make interesting and sometimes even beautiful photos.
I love the contrast between green leaves and gray or brown logs on the forest floor. Here are some photos I’ve taken this year in my explorations.
One of my favorite things to photograph is shadows, and ferns make some of the best shadows.
