Faces, Faces, Faces

In August I took Carla Sonheim’s Faces 101 class. Spent 5 days drawing and painting faces in lots of different styles. I really surprised myself by actually creating some faces that I didn’t hate, maybe even actually liked.

Random Photos

I was looking through my digital photos and found some that I liked but hadn’t posted anywhere yet. Here they are:

Tinted Gesso Textures

Because I’m a book junkie and an art junkie, I love any book that gets me making art. I’ve been working through the exercises in Collage Lab by Bee Shay (although it should probably technically be called Mixed Media Lab). The first lab was on texturing tinted gesso. Here are 4 of my results:

30 Cats

I’ve been drawing off and on for as long as I can remember. I’ve worked through several how-to-draw books and taken art classes. But I drew so sporadically that any skills I acquired were quickly lost and I felt like I had to start back at the beginning. the perfectionist in me was never satisfied with the results. Drawing became a frustrating chore.

But since I still have the desire to draw, I’ve decided I need to to do it more often, make it fun, and concentrate on the process instead of the results. Enter yet another book: Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists by Carla Sonheim.

The first exercise is to draw 30 cats while sitting or laying in bed. Here are my results:
